Using HDMI on the Samsung Droid Charge

I’ve been watching Crunchyroll on my phone which comes in handy when I’m not home.  The screen is a bit small which leads to eye strain after prolonged use.  I was curious about using the phone’s HDMI.  The Samsung Droid Charge (SCH-i510) comes with a HDMI port.  You’ll need a HDMI to HDMI Type D (micro) cable.  The micro HDMI resembles your phone’s micro USB cable.  You’ll also need a 1080 capable HDTV.

Initially, I purchased a Sigmac 15″ HDTV (480-1080i) for my phone however no video appeared.  The TV flashed 1080i once hooked up but no picture.  Then I purchased a Samsung T22B350ND 21.5″ LED.  It worked fine.  I was watching Squid Girl on a TV screen 5 times bigger than my phone’s with easy to read subtitles.

Picture Quality

Don’t expect 1080 HDMI quality.  It’s not even DVD quality.  It sort of looks like a low resolution YouTube video with jagged lines and pixelation.  The only purpose the HDMI serves is to screen capture your phone and enlarge it to your TV screen.

Couple or Trouble

Han Ye Seul in Couple or Trouble

Han Ye Seul in Couple or Trouble

Just finished the k-drama Couple or Trouble from Crunchyroll.  It based on a  Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russel movie called Overboard.  I never saw the movie so I can’t compare them.  Anna Jo is a hard-to-please rich bitch who ironically ends up as housekeeper after losing her memory.  Anna’s character is really irritating which is sort of a turnoff.  The pace of the show is slow at times but you’ll be rewarded with a great ending.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Queen of Housewives

Queen of Housewives

Just finished the Korean drama Queen of Housewives (a.k.a My Wife is a Superwoman) on Crunchyroll.  It a love triangle comedy involving three couples.  The background is the corporate world and all the backstabbing that goes with it.  I enjoyed the show although there were some lulls at the end.  Actress Sun Woo Sun (pic far left) is very pretty.  She reminds me of Japanese singer Mika Nakashima. Lee Hye Young plays sexy spiteful bitch (pic far right).  She reminds me of young Kim Cattral–I know that’s a stretch.  Actor Yoon Sang Hyun is in this one as well.  I’ve seen him in the Korean drama My Fair Lady.

Finished Jumong on Crunchyroll

Govenor Yangjung: Chumoooong!

Govenor Yangjung: Chumoooong!

This was a fun series that went fast for 80 episodes.  That’s right, it took me 80 hours to finish this show.  Great cinematography for a tv series. Lady Susano was just gorgeous.  There were some funny moments.  Many of the characters over acted their parts such as prince Young-po with his eye-rolling and faces. It was funny how many times Chumong’s enemies cursed his name every time they got pissed–I was thinking of making a YouTube video of it.

Japanese & US Currency Converter updated

Japanese & US Currency ConverterI simplified the functionality and design.  There is only one drop down box now instead of two making it easier to switch currency. The results now have a currency symbol emphasizing what you have exchanged.  It was tougher customizing than I thought because the code is written with jQuery which is new for me.

Live Action Dramas

Shin Hye Park: Prince Hours

Shin Hye Park: Prince Hours

I didn’t think I’d like live action dramas. I’ve been engrossed in anime until recently. I gave them a try early this year and was pleasantly surprised. I think of them as live action anime. I started watching them on Crunchyroll and have made some DVD purchases as well. Coffee Prince has been my favorite so far which introduced me the actress Yoon Eun Hye. Her character is very moe.

Right now I’m watching Prince Hours and Jumong on Crunchyroll.

Exporting your itunes playlist to the Web

Note: Requires MS Excel and Dreamweaver

  1. Select the playlist in iTunes by clicking on it.  Right-click and select “Export…” from the pop-up menu.
  2. Save as a text file .txt
  3. Import the text file in Excel (I’m using Office 2010).  Choose delimited and select unicode UTF-8 as the file origin IF you have a foreign language like Japanese.  Click finish.
  4. Delete any columns you like.  You will need a plug-in for Excel to create an xml and xsd file.  Go to this Microsoft page.  Follow the instructions on that page.
  5. In Dreamweaver click the Spry tab and click the Spry Data Set icon.
  6. Select XML as the data set.  Browse the the XML file you created with Excel.  Dreamweaver will also ask you for the xsd file you created with Excel.  You’ll be walked through a wizard.  Make sure and choose the options you want (i.e. sortable columns).
  7. Upload the files to your site.

Here is an anime music playlist I created.  Clicking the table headers lets you sort the column data.

Tips:

  1. To change iTunes bytes column to megabytes create a new column and enter the following formula =ROUND((D2/1024/1024),1) where “D2″ equals your first cell with bytes. When your cursor changes to a thin plus sign drag that formula into all the cells below. Format the new column as text.  Copy and past it again using the values option.  Delete the original bytes column and the 1st column you created.
  2. To change iTunes seconds column to mm:ss create a new column and enter the following formula =INT(E2/60)&”:”&INT(MOD(E2,60)) where E2 contains the first cell with seconds.  Use the same instructions above to populate and delete columns.  Unfortunately, using this method will not allow you to properly sort this column so keep it as seconds if you want to sort it.  What I did was sorting the data by time before editing then leave “sort column” as “none” using the wizard for a default time sort.
  3. Remember to format your number cells as numbers so they properly sort.
  4. You can also use Google Docs if you don’t have your own site.  You can skip the XML steps that way too. :)
